The grant program supports our long-time commitment to furthering educational excellence in the communities we serve. Edison International believes that, with a solid academic background, every child has the chance to reach his or her full potential. The corporation is dedicated to helping students succeed in—and stay in— school so they can become outstanding, contributing members of society.
Program Goals
The New Era Awards for Excellence Program is a results-oriented, grant-making effort focused on the following goals:
- Providing students with enhanced academic experiences.
- Supporting creative solutions for keeping students engaged in school and focused on academic success.
- Helping students prepare for higher education and a competitive workforce.
- Improving students’ academic performance, college entrance and retention rates.
Eligible Projects
Grants ranging from $5,000 to $10,000 will be awarded to K-12 public and private schools to support educational activities that prepare underserved students for academic success, higher education and a competitive workforce.
Projects that support underserved students in one or more of the following areas are encouraged to apply:
- Science and/or math
- College and/or workforce readiness
- Environmental programs
- Energy efficiency/energy conservation programs
- After-school programs to enhance learning and achievement
Who Should Apply
Teachers, administrators and teams composed of teachers and/or staff members at K-12 public and private schools may apply. Schools must be in Southern California Edison's service area. For a list of eligible schools, contact 1-800-456-1044.
How to Apply
Proposals for K-12 projects will be accepted via our on-line application grant process from August 1, 2006 to September 29, 2006.
