Description:
SONGS began operation in 1968. Today more than 2,000 employees work there, it being one of the largest nuclear generating stations among the more than 100 licensed to operate in the U.S. The generating capacity of its two active units can serve 2.2 million households. Unit 1 of the facility is presently undergoing decommissioning, a process set to end in 2007.
